Layered Mandalas are my Jam!

Down another  rabbit hole with layered Mandalas!

Please note that I did not design these layered mandalas, but purchased the designs off Etsy.  I wanted to try printing a few before diving into creating these from scratch.  These designs were purchased from MaWoodShop on Etsy.

The biggest problem with layered pieces like these mandalas, or even bathymetric maps is the cost.  It can get pretty pricey quickly just by adding additional layers.  I purchased a few stacks of 1/8″ premium baltic birch to do some testing.  The first one was un-finished.  The circular one was pre-stained and then masked.  I have a few more designs that I purchased, so I’ll probably cut those next.  Almost as addicting as creating complex polyherals.

The next step is to start creating these layered art pieces in Illustrator.  I have a ton of ideas in my head, and these examples from Etsy will provide a good reference when learning how to design these from scratch.  I also want to test the pass-through slot on the Glowforge and make a bigger version on one of these.  Stay Tuned!
