Glowforge Cutting Board Jig – Crumb tray Replacement – (Digital Download)

I engrave a ton of cutting boards on my Glowforge, but many of them are thicker than the .5″ limit.  You can use risers with the crumb tray removed, but this can lead to non-centered engravings.  This replacement tray sits in the front-left hand corner, and allows you to get repeatable and perfectly centered results without having to measure for the center every time.  The boards I use are .675″ thick, but you could go slightly thicker on this jig.  The risers are 1.097″ high from the floor of the Glowforge with the crumb tray removed.  Cutting boards and other materials between 0.406″ and 0.877″ should work on this jig.

You must have access to a Glowforge to laser cut and use the assembled product.

Instructions:

You still need to find the center point of your cutting board before engraving.  The easiest way I’ve found is placing a piece of masking tape on the center of the board and using a ruler, mark a + using magic marker on the exact center.  Place board on jig in Glowforge and use set focus.  Your design should include a small cross hairs centered on your design in a different color.  Set that layer to score but change the settings to be 500 speed and 6 power.  Ignore your engraving for now.  Print the cross hair which should lightly score the masking but not the board.  See how close you came to the cross hairs on the masking, and make adjustments using the arrow keys and re-run the score again if needed.  Once you’ve found the center, ignore the score layer and engrave.  Now you can re-run the job over and over by just putting a new board on the jig.
