After buying and printing a few layered mandalas off Etsy, I thought I’d try to create my own layered art. Using Bucky Badger as the base design was an easy choice, since I’m such a huge University of Wisconsin Badger Fan. This is a six layer piece that was lasercut on 1/8″ Baltic Birch with a cherry plywood frame. Each layer was hand painted or stained, except for the naked birch layers.
I also incorporated the Terrace Chair sunburst into the design, as this tends to be a popular destination of any UW alumni. The final piece measures ~11″x 15″x 1″.
The design time for this piece was around 20 hours. I’m sure I”ll get better on future designs, but I’m pretty happy with how this turned out as my first custom layered piece. If there is interest, I can do a tutorial in the future on how I accomplished this.
